Professional Advice and Support

Private Students' Music Domain (PSMD) PSMD
The Private Students' Music Domain (PSMD) was designed by Ian M J Pickett and featured in leading educational journal Music Teacher in August 2004. In essence, the PSMD is a support tool designed to bridge the gap between instrumental lessons and features wide variety of useful resources for the beginner and more experienced pupil alike. Material includes advice on instrument purchase and care, useful performance notes on the various 'core' study books, and thoughts on technical skills and posture. Copious information on examinations (both in syllabus content and ways to prepare for them) also feature, in addition to an examination 'Hall of Fame' which celebrates excellence in music. Some parents find the PSMD offers a useful insight in to their child's lessons, particularly if they themselves have never experienced instrumental lessons as a child.

To my knowledge, few teachers have yet to explore a project similar to the PSMD but it is an exciting development that offers new perspectives for instrumental teaching. 4PSMD Demo

Music Resources

Resources
Whether you're just starting to 'get-to-grips' with music notation or at the stage where you can deepen your understanding, you'll find a variety of educational resources available for demonstration or short-term loan. From basic books on music theory to advanced texts on counterpoint, historical performance, musicology and analysis - students can gain and enhanced their studies in many ways. I possess a fairly large collection of classical scores and over 500 CDs to sharpen your critical and interpretative skills. I subscribe to the Music Teacher journal, and receive periodicals from the ISM (Music Journal) and ABRSM (Libretto).
