About my Teaching

Teaching Music Theory Although I do teach at diploma level, principally, my work focuses on the teaching of those with more moderate skills, as does the work of most instrumental teachers. The importance of establishing secure technical foundation cannot be underestimated, particularly with beginners, but at the same time, to instil a sense of confidence is equally as vital. Throughout the learning process, I endeavour to be both patient and encouraging in order that pupils can develop their musical skills at a consistent and realistic pace.

At advanced levels, pupils will value my knowledge and experience of the repertoire, and attentiveness to detail. A sense of enthusiasm remains imperative, however, a much higher standard will be expected of the pupil, which is essential to see them succeed at this level.

Piano Lesson Certainly the majority of my teaching is with teenagers, however, a higher than average number of adults undertake piano study with me – a statistic I am justifiably proud of. I am well aware of the difficulties adults face and appreciate the need for a different strategy to be taken with their learning.

While many pupils receive lessons simply to develop their solo piano skills, others seek tuition to assist them with their composing or piano accompaniment. Extra-curricular support can also be provided in historical, analytical or harmonic-based studies - particularly useful for AS/A2 Music.
