Learning Environment
For pupils to really give of their best, it is important that the teacher can provide a relaxed but productive environment in which pupils can develop as musicians in their own right. I appreciate that each pupil has varying needs and aspirations and try to be as accommodating as possible. Each student will experience an interesting and broad programme of study that will not only sustain their interest but incorporates new skills and techniques along the way. Initially, beginners tend to follow a common path to establish basic techniques and develop confidence in reading and performing music, however, this is not a prescribed syllabus. As soon as sufficient material has been completed, there is more scope to tailor individual lessons to match the student's interests and strengths, however, the importance of choosing a sensible programme remains paramount. | |||

Throughout their studies, pupils will be encouraged to complete some theoretical work to ensure they attain sufficient grounding. Although the thought of music theory may alienate some prospective pupils, it will almost certainly shed new light on the music you play and increase both your understanding and enjoyment.
