Musical Horizons

Performance Opportunities
Although I understand beginners are weary to perform for others, I actively encourage all pupils to play outside of their music lessons whenever possible. Our bi-annual student concerts provide the perfect opportunity for pupils to gain experience of playing to an enthusiastic and sympathetic audience.

Gifted pupils are able to showcase their talents and compete alongside other entrants in local or regional music festivals as featured in Swindon and Oxford…such activity can be deeply gratifying for pupil, parents and teacher alike.

Professional Concerts
Each year, I organise trips to see and hear recitals in the region to encourage pupils to develop their knowledge and understanding of the repertoire, in hope that it may shape their own playing. Pupils find that the attending of a professional concert provides not only a source of inspiration but has an immense educational value.

In recent years events have included Russian virtuosos Nikolai Demidenko and Dmitri Alexeev; the technical brilliance of French pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet; ex-Leeds International Winner, Kathryn Stott; and young rising star on the classical piano scene Simon Trpceski. The opportunity to hear quality live performances within the company of other like-minded pupils certainly adds a further dimension to instrumental study.
